Building a Fertility Team (+ What Questions to Ask a Fertility Doctor!)

One of my favorite quotes is “Empowered women empower women.” It applies to everything in life, but I especially love how it applies to a woman on a fertility journey. Part of my purpose is empowering women both on their TTC path as well as those who want to become fertility coaches themselves.

No one should have to go through a fertility journey alone.

Whether you’re TTC or coaching those who are, it’s important to know what tools are available.. A fertility team (not just a fertility doctor!) acts as stepping stones along the road to parenthood - each playing a different role in supporting whatever path you may take.

As a fertility coach, this is who I recommend for a holistic fertility team. Keep in mind, not every specialist is necessary for every person TTC, but I think it’s important to know what’s out there and how they can help!

  • OB-GYN/Midwife: An OB-GYN or midwife is likely the first stepping stone on a TTC path. Many don’t specialize in fertility issues, but they can perform preliminary evaluations and refer to more specialized care.

  • Reproductive Endocrinologist: These doctors focus on hormone health, specifically as they relate to reproduction.

  • Fertility Coach: If the whole process feels overwhelming, a fertility coach can help navigate the diagnosis and create a plan (including building out a fertility team!) that supports mental and physical well being while empowering women to take control of their TTC journey.

  • Functional Doctor/Practitioner: These doctors focus on finding and addressing root causes.

  • Acupuncturist: Acupuncture is a non-invasive treatment that has been shown to support conception and is often recommended as an early form of intervention, even by practitioners focused on Western medicine.

  • Herbalist: Herbal supplements can be a powerful tool in a fertility journey. I recommend working with a trusted herbalist (not just Googling your options!) to find out what herbs might be right for you.

  • Chiropractor: Chiropractic care can alleviate stress, promote blood flow, and support a healthy alignment - all important pieces of the fertility puzzle.

  • Dietician/Nutritionist: A nutrient dense diet supports healthy hormone function and may address imbalances that can lead to fertility issues. A dietician or nutritionist can help you navigate what diet might best support your body. You can learn about some of my favorite foods for fertility here!

Did any of my recommendations surprise you? Do you have any specialists to add to the list? Whether you’re looking to become a part of a fertility team as a coach or need support from a fertility coach on your own TTC journey, I can help. Send me a DM on Instagram and let’s chat!
